Be realistic about the risks you face, and your ability to address them. Many times, small businesses are not equipped to handle daily duties as well as worrying about external threats. Dedicate personnel to IT services or outsource the work to an MSP. The most important thing is to have a voice who understands the severity of the situation and is equipped to act on it.

Having good policies in place increases the confidence that clients will have when enlisting your help. It makes for a great marketing point as well, as it shows that a firm is serious about cyber security, not to mention the freedom it gives businesses to scale knowing that any amount of information is handled safely. Cyber security is more than a defense, it can open doors to partnerships and lead to opportunities that were otherwise not present.
